Lawton is in the Connect Atlanta Plan as a secondary bike connection that will connect Brown Middle School, the BeltLine, and Ralph David Abernathy. Renew Atlanta is hosting a public information meeting on the project this week. Our goal is to make this street safe and slow for pedestrians and people who bike. Please attend this meeting if you or someone you know is affected by the project.

GDOT Must Prioritize People Before Speed
|
|
If you commented on the Peachtree Rd. project last year, you should have received a notice from GDOT.
We firmly believe that the few feet of space proposed (4' protected by paint) for bike lanes on Peachtree Rd. simply wasn't enough to let most folks imagine themselves biking on a dangerous road like Peachtree. We must, however, continue to draw your attention to the fact that the project design that included bike lanes scored highest for overall project safety -- for everyone, not just people on bikes. This is a missed opportunity, especially since pedestrian deaths are surging in Georgia - 206 people were killed while walking in 2015. That's an increase of 37% in two years.
If you'd like to help shift the tide towards safety in this state, contact your GDOT board member to let them know you think safety, not popularity, should be the metric we use to make project decisions.
