In March 2017, Java Cats became Atlanta’s first cat café. We are proud to have it in Grant Park in the burgeoning Memorial corridor. Java Cats was conceived by owner Hadyn Hilton while taking a film class at Georgia State. As she researched the phenomenon of YouTube cat videos, Hilton became intrigued by the 1990s boom of cat cafes in Taiwan. Cat cafés quickly spread to Japan and are part of the iyashi industry. Iyashi means healing, which is just what cat cafes are intended to do. Here at Java Cats, the healing benefit can have a long-term effect, as all cats in the lounge are available for adoption. Hilton has partnered with PAWS Atlanta to foster up to 16 cats in the cat lounge at a time. The cats are various breeds and sizes, short-haired and long-haired. Each cat sports a blue or pink collar depending on gender. In Java Cats’ first month open, 21 cats were adopted out!

The café’s delicious coffee is curated by the good people at Ebrik’s Coffee, and the beans are from Radio Roasters. Hilton spent seven months honing her coffee shop skills at the Ebrik’s location near Georgia State. Baked goods are provided by the Gathering Industries, an Atlanta based non-profit that helps individuals facing homelessness.

The cafe consists of two rooms. It’s your choice as to whether you want to stop by the coffee shop (open to all) or visit the cat lounge for the full experience. If you want to see it during the tour, make your lounge reservation at https://bookeo.com/javacatscafe using promo code GPTOUR 2017. Tour-goers get a discounted rate of $7 for one hour in the lounge, which includes a drip coffee, iced coffee or tea. Walk-in reservations may be possible at the coffee shop counter, depending on capacity. Tour brochure or payment receipt is required to enter the lounge with the discounted reservation.
The cat lounge has a capacity of 12 humans per hour. If you are unable to visit the cat lounge during the Tour of Homes, do not despair, your promo code is good through June 10, 2017. There is also an oversized viewing window between the coffee shop and cat lounge where you can sip coffee while watching the kittens play. Relax and enjoy the iyashi experience!

Parking on Oakland or Woodward Avenues is highly encouraged.

Hadyn welcomes you to enjoy this unique animal experience in Grant Park and also possibly save a wonderful furry friend!
