Neighborhood History

Grant Park Oral History Project

Author: Carol Fisk, GPNA Historical Committee

Do you have stories to tell and memories to share about our Grant Park neighborhood way back when? If so, the Historic Committee of the Grant Park Neighborhood Association (GPNA) needs your help, please! We are launching an oral history project and would like to interview – and record, if possible – people who have lived in the neighborhood for more than twenty-five years.

Life in Grant Park has changed dramatically in recent years and we would like to capture reminiscences and information about the way it looked, people’s daily lives, major – and minor – events that happened here and stories about Grant Park residents before those memories are lost forever. The oral histories we gather will be saved for the use of neighborhood schools and selections will be posted on the neighborhood's website.

If you would like to contribute your memories to this project or if you have a friend or neighbor who has great stories to tell, please contact Carol Fisk at 404/ 577-3722 or email. For obvious reasons, we would like to interview elderly people first, but this will be an ongoing process and we’d like to gather as many oral histories as we can. Thanks for your help!

As the Oral History Interviews take place and are transcribed by neighborhood volunteers, they will be posted here for everyone who would like to read a first-person perspective of what Grant Park life was like years ago.
