Neighborhood History
Named for Major General William HenryTalbot Walker, who was killed in the Battle of Atlanta. The breastworks at Fort Walker are one of the few remnants of a defensive line that helped withstand the attack of the Union forces for six weeks. This was part of the maginot line of defenses. Colonel L.P. Grant oversaw construction of the entire line that ringed the city 1-1/4 miles from Five Points.

Fort Walker is located in the southeast corner of the park at Boulevard and Delmar. Only the earthen embankment remains.
