ATLANTA – Throw on your goggles. Slip on those flippers and head to Grant Park.

Swimming officially starts again on Monday, May 30th (Memorial Day) at the Grant Park Pool, located at 625 Park Avenue.

In honor of this rite of summer, District 1 Atlanta City Councilmember Carla Smith will host the annual Grant Park Pool Opening Day Party from 2:30 until 6 p.m. on the pool deck.

The public is invited to enjoy live music, free hot dogs, pool games and lots of prizes. As always, normal pool admission fees will apply. Sign-ups are happening now for swim lessons and swim clinic.

Last year’s party was such a success that the pool quickly reached capacity on Memorial Day, so be sure to get to the pool early on Monday, Smith said.

Councilmember Smith sees the party as a celebration for the surrounding neighborhoods and for the Friends of the Grant Park Pool a non-profit organization formed in 2004, that works with the City to ensure that the community pool is a nice, clean and safe place. The opening day party also welcomes the lifeguard staff to the pool for the new season.
