APD Active Shooting Exercise at Zoo Atlanta
From Zoo Atlanta:

Dear neighbors and community partners,

We wanted to make members of our Grant Park community aware that on Tuesday, March 1, the Atlanta Police Department will be conducting an active shooting training exercise at Zoo Atlanta. Tuesday afternoon and evening, neighbors may see numerous police and fire vehicles, equipment, apparatus, and actors, and may hear loud noises such as bangs, all associated with the training. These activities will not impact the comfort or safety of the Zoo Atlanta animal population.

The training exercise should not impact car or foot traffic on Cherokee Avenue or other streets bordering the Zoo. However, for security reasons, please avoid recreational activities in and around the entry plaza of the Zoo Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Thank you for your cooperation as we assist the Atlanta Police Department in conducting this important training.

Point of Interest - Atlanta Preservation Center
The Atlanta Preservation Center is the City’s private non-profit preservation organization. It was founded in 1979 to promote the preservation of Atlanta's architecturally, historically and culturally significant buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes through education and advocacy. Throughout its operation the Atlanta Preservation Center (APC) has worked to make a richer environment in the City by advocating for Atlanta’s historic resources. They have sought to bring an awareness of the existence and value of a diverse range of treasures and to propose ways in which they can be made viable assets for use and purpose in the life of the City.   more

#1 - 348 Ormond St SE
Mike Schatz didn’t have a lot of renovating to do when he moved into his 3-2 Victorian on Ormond Street more than 16 years ago. Good thing. Not only did he have two kids – 2 and 6 –but his creative energies were more aimed toward other forms of drama. Who has time for arguing with contractors – much less hanging trim or laying tile – when trying to focus on writing plays, doing voiceovers for shows like Archer and Aqua Teen Hunger Force where he played the character Emory and was the voice of the Atlanta Braves for over 10 seasons.   more

#2 - 474 Park Ave SE
Carl and Rob began their love affair with historic homes in 2003 when they purchased their first Grant Park project on Ormewood Avenue. Six years after fully restoring the home, they were ready to find their next Grant Park “diamond in the rough,” so in the summer of 2009 they sold their Ormewood home and purchased this 2-story, 5-bedroom Queen Anne Victorian in immaculately original condition (the previous owner had a penchant for historic preservation).   more

#4 - 476 Bryan St
Larry and Lyn Montagne must have had to look hard to see the beauty in the Victorian on Bryan Street when they bought it in 1981. The house not only had gaping holes through the roof and floors but it had legal action against it from the city. The Montagnes knew with the right effort (sweat, sawing and hammering) they could turn it into an abode warm enough to eventually raise three children.   more

#5 - 361 Park Ave
A light & bright theme has always been the couple’s aesthetic, carrying their “All White” exterior from their last home to this new renovation. Alison being a Realtor @ Adams Realtors since 2006, having an interior design practice as well, knew just how lucky she was when she found this home prior to hitting the market that had only two families as owners prior to them.   more

Erin Hall’s story with her Grant Park home is just beginning! She moved into the house only a few months ago. But like several other homeowners on our tour, Erin can put some professional skills to work as she settles in. She has a background in interior and graphic design. She owned a mid-century furniture shop Brooklyn, New York before relocating to Nashville. Now, she’s back in Atlanta, where she is from originally.   more

#7 - 630 Hansell St
Walk in the front door and a bright, white-themed interior offers a clean backdrop for a charming home that is filled with unique art, modern style, a spiral staircase, an open kitchen and plenty of historic elements that have been retained. #8 - 619 Rosalia St
Peter and Amy Revelas undertook a major change in life in 2012 when they purchased their turn-of-the-century Faux Victorian. In a way moving to Atlanta’s first historic neighborhood brought them exactly the house they wanted. But like so many incoming folks over the last decades they had to make some updates. They learned the renovating often never ends.   more

Point of Interest - Eventide Brewing
Eventide Brewing was formed out of friendship and a love of good beer. Nathan, Haley, and Geoffrey all met at Georgia Southern, and later on began to experiment with homemade pickles, mustard, cheese, and beer. Nathan and Geoffrey’s first batch of beer was brewed on a “Mr. Beer” kit. Shortly after realizing they needed to upgrade, Nathan fabricated a three kettle brew system, which is still used to create our test brews today. Mathew joined the team a few years later after being introduced to the group through one of Haley’s close friends. The combination of everyone’s background and talents has allowed us to build this company from the ground up, become closer friends, and craft award winning beer. We are very happy to call Atlanta home and to provide this great city with offerings that will really show what “Craft” can be. To us, great doesn’t have to be complicated.   more

Community Builds Natural Playscape at The Highlander School - Photos
The Highlander School in East Atlanta Village hosted a Community Build event to create a natural playscape, one of the first of its kind in Atlanta! The new playscape design, by Rusty Keeler of Earthplay, was inspired by the hills, rivers, and plants of Georgia and will be filled with art, music, and nature-inspired play features.

The Community Build event involved many skilled volunteers and generous donors. We’re thrilled to bring natural play spaces to our families and East Atlanta. For more information on the Highlander School, please contact Rukia Rogers at
